Are there any costs to me outside of the seedlings and planting?

Depending on land conditions, site preparation may have to be paid for by you.

Does the land have to be contiguous (i.e., one solid, non-interrupted piece of land)?

No, the planting area can be spread out across different parcels of land. If an agreement is signed between landowners, the area can also span across different properties.
